The Aboriginal Sin

Russian Skaters' Aborigine Theme Causes Outcry

It is my firm belief that any and every situation is now cause for an outcry.  You missed the bus - cry out - it's transit's fault for not knowing you intended on catching that bus!  The dog ran away - cry out - it's the SPCA's fault for not adopting out pets that love their owners enough!  You got a hangnail - cry out - it's skin care companies' fault for not warning that a lack of use of moisturizer can lead to hangnails!  Bad hair day - cry out!  Car won't start - cry out!  It's not your fault!  Nothing is ever your fault and it is your RIGHT to make a stink about it!

In case you, reader, believe I'm serious, I'm not.  But, seriously, it takes some talent to keep coming up with new things to cause a ruckus over.  Most everything has already been outcried.

After reading only the headline of the above article, I was fully prepared to shake a fist at the Russians, but after seeing the first picture, I was more inclined to roll on the floor laughing.  The Aussies are upset over this?  Really?  I think I'd be ashamed to associate those costumes with my origin, wouldn't you?

Hint to Australian aboriginals: shut your pie hole!  If the Russians want to embarass themselves like that in front of the whole world, let them!  Don't stir things up and shout SCANDAL! just because you can.  If their little ice dance has nothing to do with Australian aboriginals (ice dancing, Australia, aboriginals - one of these things doesn't belong), let them do their little dance and no one has to know what the heck they're wearing or that it bears a slight resemblance to certain customs of a certain culture.

On the Canadian side of this - way to go Tewanee Joseph - we've opened the doors to educate people like this.  Now, wouldn't the Aussie's look much nicer if they'd simply sent one of their culturally educated aboriginals to the Russian ice dance team to teach them a few things?  Instead, they had to open their big pie holes and, as a result, look just as foolish as the pair gliding around with silk leaves protruding from their brows and armpits.

  1. I can't stop laughing about the costumes! Besides, how does anyone really know if it's an "authentic" dance from thousands of years ago?

  2. Oh for Pete's sake! This is yet another example of a bunch of complainers who have nothing better to do with their time. Get a life and as the blogger has stated, "shut your pie hole".

Wilfred Laurier 1907 Speech

--> I think this is is something that needs to be forwarded until every Canadian with a computer receives it. The year is 1907, one hundred and three years ago. -->   Wilfrid Laurier's ideas on Immigrants and being a Canadian in 1907. 'In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes a Canadian and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet a Canadian, and nothing but a Canadian.  T here can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is a Canadian, but something else also, isn't a Canadian at all. We have room for but one flag, the Canadian flag. We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and t...

Revival

It's been seven years since the last post. Back then, I thought North America was going to hell in a handbasket. Little did I know what was to come. Looking back, I long for the days when heating oil in a basement was the worst of my worries when it came to the stupidity of humanity. These days, I can't even read the news without getting anxious, stressed out, and just plain pissed off. So SYPH and GH is being revived. I couldn't care less if anyone reads this or not. It's more of a venting outlet than anything. Opinions that were strong when this all started are even stronger. The divide between the right and the left is even wider. My commentary will likely be even more colourful. If you don't like it, well, you can just shut your pie hole and go home.

It's about time for a little global recognition.

G-20 Nations Should Look to Canada for How to Build a Better Economy I can't even begin to describe how proud I am to be Canadian after reading this article.  Not to mention the fact that it was written by Americans. I was pleased to see Stephen Harper shown in a good light.  The gentlemen who wrote the article seem to have more respect for our Prime Minister than many Canadians. Despite the rantings of so many Canadians, it's been proven that Canada is indeed recovering faster than the majority of countries around the world. If you're not proud of that, you can shut your pie hole and go home.
