A Jesus Christ cartoon is in development at Comedy Central. "JC is a playful take on religion and society with a sprinkle of dumb.” This comment makes me wonder just how many Christians and biblical scholars are involved in the creation of this show. My guess is a big, fat 0.
I personally believe that Comedy Central has already gone too far. I thought cartoons were supposed to be for kids. Since when is animation R rated? Apparently clean humour is no longer appreciated.
While I appreciate good humour like any real Canadian, I take offense as a Christian when non-believers take all respect and honour away from my Saviour. I have no doubts that God loves to laugh, the Bible speaks often of the joy of the Father. I can only imagine Jesus laughing and joking around with his disciples, but to place God in the role of an apathetic, video-gaming father? That's offensive. That's disrespect.
I'm all for promoting Christianity in as many forms as possible, but lets keep it relevant and reverent. Why not pitch a Jesus cartoon to a Christian or family network and let the believers take over the development? Having non-Christians promote their skewed view of God isn't helping the cause of the Christian faith.
A while back, we here at SYPH and GH posted on religious respect. It's time for that respect to come into play. I'm not going to knock the atheists no matter how sorry I feel for them. I'm not going to hate the Muslims even if I don't agree with them. I'm not going to avoid the Buddhists just because I don't share their faith, but you'd better believe that I'm going to stand up and cry out when ignorant citizens mock my God, my Saviour, my Father, my Friend. Take Him or leave Him, but there's hell to pay for unbelief.
You may think me harsh in my comments, but believe me, I'm calm right now. If you've spent any time at all in the presence of the Lord, you, too should be infuriated with what the picture the world is trying to paint of the God of the Universe. I've been called a fanatic and a zealot. I'm okay with that. I wish more Christians would be proud to carry those labels. Who are we if not passionate about our faith and our God?

I appreciate your comments and agree completely. The holy reverence once given to God has gone by the wayside, replaced by mockery that goes beyond disrespect. It's blasphemy. And you're right. There is hell to pay.
ReplyDeleteThis makes me want to cry. While God is a big God and can surely handle himself, no one should be subject to such mockery, all-powerful or not.
